Hiding a part of myself that is in reality nothing more than lines on skin to satisfy someone’s narrow world-view really bothers me.
I don’t feel the need to baby the elderly - but I’ll do it today because I don’t want something stupid distracting my grandmother from being able to connect with me.
But the truth is, this is for the same reason that I’ll avoid talking about politics, black people or queer folk - it will become abundantly clear that although we’re family, we could never be friends.
